Conditions of the Competition 2023
The German-Danish composer Friedrich Kuhlau was born in Uelzen on September 11, 1786 and died in Copenhagen on March 12, 1832.
The International Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition has been held since 1970 in honour of the composer. The flute competition has gained international recognition through its unique stress on the flute ensemble categories. Great emphasis is placed on the creativity of the ensembles.

Categories
I Ensemble Flute and Piano, II Ensemble Two Flutes, III Ensemble Three or Four Flutes
and Online-Category (exclusively online) IV Ensemble 2 to 5 instruments
The competition for Categories I-III took place in Uelzen/Germany. Category IV took place exclusively as an online competition.

All competitors who have registered according to the rules, are admitted to the first round of the competition. The age of an individual competitor or the average age of an ensemble cannot exceed 32 years at the time of the competition. The maximum age of a member of an ensemble cannot exceed 35 years. The minimum age for participation is 16 years.
Registration deadlines for 2025 will be announced later.
Competition fee: €65 (for contestants who actually take part in the competition)
There will be three prizes in each category, max. € 11 000 in total (Categories I-III) and max. € 1 800 (Category IV)
