The International Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition is dedicated to the German-Danish composer Friedrich Kuhlau, born in Uelzen in 1786.
The competition, first announced in 1970, is organized by the Kulturkreis Uelzen in cooperation with the Hanseatic City of Uelzen.
The 21st International Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition will take place October 19-25, 2025, in Uelzen/Germany. There are three categories:
Category I: Flute Solo (unaccompanied)
Category II: Ensemble Two Flutes and Piano
and Category III: Ensemble Three or Four Flutes, or Ensemble Three to Five Instruments with at least One Flute.
Registration for ensembles of 3-5 Instruments with at least 1 Flute will be open for the first time in 2025! The competition will take place in Uelzen, Germany, at the Theater an der Ilmenau. Soloists and ensembles of all nationalities are welcome to participate without pre-selection. The age of a soloist or the average age of an ensemble must not exceed 32 at the time of the competition, with the maximum age of an ensemble member not exceeding 35. The minimum age for participation is 16.
Registration deadline: August 19, 2025
Competition fee: €65 (upon participation)
Three prizes are available in each category, with a maximum total of €13,800.
